Phil Sawford

Local,  Honest,  Hard working, Outspoken and Independent

The General election is only weeks away and it will soon be decision time for people in the Kettering Constituency.

Phil Sawford served as the Member of Parliament for the Kettering Constituency from 1997 to 2005.

LOCAL - Phil was born in the Kettering Constituency and has lived here all his life. His parents, children and grandchildren live here too. Phil says

'I know the area, I know the people and I share their concerns and aspirations'

HONEST - Phil published his accounts as soon as he received them and Sir Thomas Legg, who conducted the review of MP's expenses, simply said in his report 'Mr Sawford has no issues'. Phil says

'I never thought it was right for MP's to speculate on the London property market at the taxpayers expense and I didn't do it'

HARD WORKING - Phil had an office in the constituency with full time staff available and working on behalf of local people. Phil says,

'My aim was, and always will be, to give the best possible representation and service to local people. I strongly believe that the community should have face to face access for advice and help'

OUTSPOKEN - Phil was Ketterings voice at Westminster not Westminster's voice in Kettering. Phil says,

'Local people want a voice and they want that voice to be heard. I was never afraid to speak out on their behalf'

INDEPENDENT - During his time at Westminster Phil voted against his own Government 34 times. Phil says,

'I always listen to local people and I am always willing to reflect their views and stick to my principles as I did when I consistently voted against the warin Iraq'
