The Kettering Constitueny Labour Party has selected Phil Sawford as their Parliamentary candidate for the next General Election. At a packed meeting on the 17th April 2007 the five shortlisted candidates spoke and answered questions before the final ballot. Phil was selected with a massive 93% of the first preference votes.
After the meeting Phil said -
'I am delighted with the support I have received from local party members and I now look forward to the campaign to win the Kettering seat back at the next General Election.
I thought long and hard about standing again and a key factor in making that decision was the level of support not just within the local party but in the wider comminity. Even now there are many who think I am still the Member of Parliament and I have lost count of the number of e-mails, letters and phone calls from local people who have asked me to stand again.
I have met so many people over the last two years who have made kind comments about the work that I did during my eight years in Parliament and I feel that I owe it to them to stand again.'
