                           <title><![CDATA[The Tolpuddle Rally]]></title>
                           <description><![CDATA[Not as big as Glastonbury but almost as wet. Phil attended the Annual Tolpuddle Rally in Dorset to commemorate the birth of the Trade Union movement.
 Six agricultural labourers were convicted of conspiracy and transported as convicts to Australia for seven years. The rally is held each year on the second Sunday in July. The main speaker this year was Tony Benn and Billy Bragg rounded of event on the Sunday afternoon.

                           <description><![CDATA[COUNCILLORS ALLOWANCES
 Local Councillors should be reimbursed for the work they do and we must avoid a situation where an unemployed person, pensioner or single parent is unable able to take a full part in the democratic process for financial reasons.
 It is right that Councillors allowances should be set by an Independent Review Panel but it should always be remebered that it is local taxpayers who pick up the bill.

 Boundary changes which will be introduced for the next General Election will favour the conservatives and it is predicted that they will gain 20 - 25 seats but the same analyst also predict that Kettering is one of a small number that could swing back to labour.

 'Labour can expect to have a better chance of seizing Lancaster and Wyre, Northampton South, Rugby and Kenilworth, Croydon Central and Kettering from the Tories under the new arrangements.'
